Recently, a model in Taiwan who was interested in getting into camming asked me what the best time to go online for her would be. Being a data driven person, I decided to do some research to find out the time of day that would maximize her earnings and inadvertently ended up on a goldmine full of data; insights from PornHub’s data analysts.
PornHub is the world’s largest porn hosting website with its parent company MindGeek owning even more tube sites like RedTube, YouPorn etc. Every few weeks and at the end of every year, data scientists from their parent company analyses data on user behaviour and release it to the public. With the amount of users they handle every day, the data they put out is serious business and can help any content creator sell their own content better.
With the 2019 report about to be released soon, in this post I want to show how you can use this data to make more interesting content and promote it more effectively. Even though the analysis is done on historic data it can be used to predict what the future behaviour of your buyers will be like.
Let’s look at the year in review at PornHub:
Top Searches
Here are the most important searches from 2018 according to porn hub:
- Stormy Daniels
- Fortnite
- 4K
- Romantic
- Trans
- Outdoor
- Tattoos
- Tinder
- Bowsette
- Threesome
How you can use this
Now you can’t do anything to morph into Stormy Daniels but notice what an excellent set of ideas the rest of these keywords can prove to be for your next videos. You can easily theme your next video with a Tinder roleplay, shoot outdoors or bring on a few friends for a threesome and ride the search wave for view. If you’re a cosplayer, hitting those Fortnite or Bowsette keywords will bring you quite a few views.
In their report they specifically mention how important 4K is becoming so you can use this information to determine what equipment you should have in your bucket list (hint: 4k camera).
Scrolling down a bit you will also notice a raw list of the top search terms for that year and their categorization. These terms and categories don’t change too much between years and it still amazes me how a lot of models don’t tune their persona to capture searches on these terms. For example if you’re Asian, mention this everywhere on your profile and titles and descriptions for videos etc. You can also use these time tested terms to find ideas for videos.
One piece of good news seems to be that searches for Amateur Porn is going up!
Top Countries by Traffic, Times People Watch Porn
Here are the top 5 countries:
- US
- UK
- India
- Japan
- Canada
And here are when people mostly watch porn: 4p -2am with Fridays being the slowest and Sunday being the most popular.
These two sections are absolutely crucial in finding out who your viewer is. Unsurprisingly, US is at the top and that is where a lot of your income will come from.
How to use this
Since your viewers are in the US, first of all it will help to keep any dialogs and titles in English through I have never met a model who doesn’t already do that. Scroll down a bit and it will show you a breakdown of all the states and their porn use. Scroll down further and it shows you when people watch porn.
If you’re a camgirl you have to make sure you stream during popular times in high traffic areas in the US and the UK. If you’re in Taiwan, do your show in the morning. If you sell videos, avoid releasing them on Friday but instead perhaps on Saturday.
Device Usage
Turns out Pornhub also tracks what device you use to watch porn and it is not surprising that people like to watch porn on their phone and tablets more than Desktop computers!
How to use this
Get your butt on social media right now! As a content creator you should have a presence on all social media to promote yourself. Also set up a Premium Snapchat and Premium Kik and start offering sexting sessions on it.
Worldwide Events
Pornhub has a lot of discussion on how various events trigger changes in porn views and it can’t be effectively summarized. However, the key takeaway is that most big events always take viewership away from porn.
How to use this
Plan your breaks around big events! If you were planning on releasing a video just make sure you wait for the event to end but feel free to join healthy discussions about these events on social media since this will only bring more viewers to you.
Other Insights
PornHub also regularly releases other insights on its Insights section which are always worth a read. These are mostly based on worldwide events but can sometimes provide a good insights into how you can use these events for self promotions. I will leave my own summary and let you think a bit ;)
